Bumpy start
Well todays trip was off to a bit of a bumpy start. Sandals left behind made for a quick turn around back home where Aiden had lovingly placed them in the middle of the driveway. Once we got to the airport we went to check a bag which I hadn’t planned or done in MANY years. After checking the bag and heading to SEA Spot Saver ( this is amazing and free if you don’t know about it, thanks Laura it was a life saver) I realized I couldn’t find my wallet. I called Aiden to check my room because I was concerned it somehow hadn’t made my packed bag.. he searched and then texted me this..Little punk got the prank of a lifetime . Apparently that’s an old photo. A few moments of sheer panic and then he admitted it wasn’t there. Why he has a picture of my coin purse, I couldn’t tell you. Ultimately, I figured out that it was likely in the checked bag and once we arrived in Iceland I was able to confirm and relax. Thankfully the airport takes Apple Pay because I had to pay a ridiculous 35 dollars for a new iPhone charger after I brought the charger for the new iPhone that doesn’t have the usb 🤦♀️. Lessons learned. That new charger will now live in the suitcase.
Flight was fine, though sleeping was few and far between. We took a taxi to the hotel and used our charm to let us check in hours early so we could nap. Got a few hours sleep then headed off to the Blue Lagoon.
5 hours of glorious bliss at the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, little did I know that my choice of a strapless top would turn it into a comical adventure. But hey, if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at? We booked the Blue Lagoon the day that we booked our flights so we didn’t fully remember everything that our premium package entailed. Let me start by saying that the premium package was worth every Penny. It included 3 facial masks, a drink and the greatly appreciated use of a bath robe. Only downfall was that it also included bracelets that you purchased everything with which got a bit pricy for lunch when we hadn’t been fed anything on the plane and we had absolutely zero clue on the currency conversion rate. After no food except for the few snacks we bought on the plane with us that 8,700 Krónas seemed worth every penny.
We quickly adjusted to our new found bougie bliss and made our way to the mask “hut”. With an eagerness that rivaled a kid in a candy store, I immediately indulged in the first mask, a lava mud mask followed by some sweet strawberry wine at the swim (or float up) bar.
Now, let's get to the topless elephant in the room. As I mentioned earlier, my choice of a strapless top led to many photos where I appeared to be unintentionally topless. While it might be entertaining to scroll through my camera roll and have a chuckle, I can only imagine what people thought in person! As embarrassed as I initially felt, I quickly realized that everyone at the lagoon was there for relaxation and blissful rejuvenation. So, to those who had an unexpected view, you're welcome! You'll probably never see anything like me again! Clearly everyone else thought their swimsuit choices through a little bit more.
All in all a good day in Iceland. Heading to London for a day and a half in a few hours then making it to Paris which has long been a dream. The photo of Angie that I bought with me on my walk last year is safely tucked into my bag next to my passport and the coin purse that I have misplaced in said bag 3 times, I blame the sleep. Either way if this is the start of vacation, I know we’ve got an amazing trip in store.
